MiHee Kim Magee

MiHee Kim Magee is a South Korean born, London based abstract painter.
Her painting involves the pursuit of spiritual aims through experimental, improvised processes that lead to uncertain and new outcomes, continually challenging herself to explore new possibilities.
Her artistic development has been strongly influenced by the philosophy of avant-garde/free jazz, experimental and improvised music, which she first discovered while living in Australia and has been engaging with for over a decade. This special connection with music has given her a new and unique perspective on the process of abstract painting and an appreciation of the breadth of possibilities that are available.
She has also been working as an album cover artist, collaborating with New York free jazz and other international record labels since she relocated to London.
She enjoys working with a wide variety of materials and freely exploring their potential in an unplanned, intuitive way.
"MiHee Kim Magee's abstract, mixed media paintings build on the type of unplanned, improvised and intuitive techniques associated with Helen Frankenthaler or Frank Bowling and connect them to the philosophy of avant-garde jazz and experimental music, constantly challenging herself to discover new forms and unpredictable outcomes in the paintings themselves."
